Very Sad News - Graham 'Rocky' Hudson's passing
Graham ‘Rocky’ Hudson a Canberra Royals RFC life member passed away suddenly on Tuesday 6 February 2018 in Kempsey where he has lived for some time.
Graham was one of the genuine legends in Royals distinguished 69 year history. Graham came to Canberra in the early 1960s from the Eastwood Club in Sydney. Graham was a tough, uncompromising, old school prop who regularly represented and captained the ACT and also represented NSW Country in the days when ACT was part of NSW. Graham was one of Royals great captains and a real leader. Under his captaincy the team won three successive premierships in 1964, 1965 and 1966. He then took on the coaching role and won a further premiership in 1968 with Graham as both captain and coach, a very rare feat in any era. Graham went on to be President of Royals in 1970, 1971 and 1972. Apart from his leadership on and off the field Graham was a tireless worker for Royals in its drive to raise funds to build a licensed club. Graham retained a strong love of rugby and Royals throughout his life and regularly attended life member’s dinners in recent years. Graham has maintained many strong friendships in the wider Royals community and he will be greatly missed.
